Stress-Testing the Hypothesis

The first investigation produced a possible explanation.

The next question was whether that explanation deserved to be believed.

Rather than immediately building on the first plausible answer, I deliberately tried to find its weaknesses.

This became one of the defining principles of the project.

An explanation should not be accepted simply because it appears reasonable. It should survive repeated attempts to disprove it.

Instead of asking,

"Can I justify this explanation?"

the investigation shifted toward a more demanding question:

"What evidence would prove this explanation wrong?"

That change in perspective influenced every stage of the project that followed.


Objective

Evaluate the initial explanation critically before using it as the foundation for further research.


Motivation

A convincing scientific explanation should survive criticism, not merely agreement.

Testing an idea against competing evidence is often more valuable than producing the idea itself.


Work Performed

  • Re-examined the original explanation from multiple perspectives.
  • Reformulated questions to eliminate ambiguity.
  • Distinguished between evidence, interpretation, and speculation.
  • Began developing a methodology based on deliberately challenging every important conclusion.

Results

🟢 Verified

The investigation adopted a research strategy based on continuously testing rather than defending proposed explanations.


🟡 Supported

Several assumptions that initially appeared obvious became less certain after closer examination.


🟡 Supported

The project began shifting away from educational summaries toward primary scientific evidence as the preferred source of conclusions.


Research Notes

Although relatively little mathematics was developed during this stage, the methodology of the investigation changed significantly.

Looking back, this transition proved to be one of the most valuable decisions in the project.

Later corrections—including mathematical revisions and historical reinterpretations—were possible because no conclusion was treated as beyond question.


Next Steps

Test the emerging theoretical framework against the published literature to determine whether the proposed mathematical approach had already been developed or whether meaningful differences existed.
